A South Jersey police escort that was shot dead by an undercover officer last year has been found to be in good health, officials said.
The body of a 28-year-old South Jersey man was found Tuesday in a parking lot of a mall near Philadelphia, said South Jersey Police Chief Brian R. O’Neill.
The officer, who was on a routine stop, fired at least two shots, according to O’Neil.
The driver of the vehicle escaped unharmed, and no one else was injured, he said.
No arrests have been made in the shooting, O’Reilly said.
The officer was not wearing a body camera and has not been identified, he added.
A South Jersey resident told police the escort was wearing a helmet and had been “on the job for a while,” according to the police chief.
O’Neill said the man’s wife and children were not in the car when it was shot at, but were “very distraught” by what happened.
He did not say how the officer fired the shots, saying the investigation is ongoing.
South Jersey has seen a steady increase in homicides and shootings in recent years.
