The UAE’s male-dominated culture of sex work is a reality for many women, including one woman from Melbourne who spoke to the ABC’s The World Tonight about her life as a prostitute.
“I can tell you that, in the past couple of years, I’ve seen the number of women getting into sex work go up,” the woman said.
“The number of men in prostitution has gone up quite a lot.
I think a lot of people are trying to look for other things, and some of those other things are drugs, alcohol, and other stuff.”
The woman’s experiences have made her look at her own experiences in the UK, and how she deals with the pressures.
She said: “I’ve noticed that my experiences as a female have not been as good.
I’m not just a woman, I’m also a woman who’s been raped, I was a trafficked woman, a domestic abuse victim, a victim of sexual violence.”
My experiences as female are not as good as those of the men.
“A lot of my experiences, even as a trafficker and victim of domestic violence, have not come across as that good.”
The Australian Financial Reviews asked two female escort agencies about their experiences with clients in the sex industry, as well as some of the negative comments and comments they’ve received.
“You’re a victim,” one female escort told the ABC.
“Well, you are?”
“Yeah, I do get a lot,” the female escort replied.
“That’s because we’re all victims of something,” the male escort replied, laughing.
“We are not the only victims.”
“You can’t be a victim and not a human being,” the escort replied with a smile.
“Yes, and no,” the other female escort responded.
“If you’re a woman and you’re going to get trafficked or you’re being exploited, that’s wrong,” the man continued.
“But you can be a human person and you don’t need to be trafficked,” the second escort said.’
I just hope that we don’t get too far away from each other'”It’s really sad, I think, when we get in situations where the women are like, ‘I’m just so happy that I’m having sex with other women.'”
It does make me think about what is so sad about it, because if we’re going out in public and having sex and there’s not a man with us, it’s just a shame.
There are so many ways that we can make a difference.””
If it’s not OK for women to do it, then it’s OK for men to do something that’s not.”
There are so many ways that we can make a difference.
