Indian beach resorts in the Maldives are a favorite place for men and women alike to go for escorts.
But now, the city of Bali is reportedly closing down the popular Indian escorts and escorts-only establishments, which were once the scene of luxury resort life.
The Maldives police said in a statement Monday that the police have arrested six people on charges of violating the local law against “unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor” in a popular beach resort.
Police say that the accused were part of a gang of men who had been involved in “illegal sex acts” with minors in the resort area.
They were arrested on Friday, according to police.
It was not immediately clear if the victims were the same people arrested Friday.
The law banning “unnatural sex acts with minors” was passed in 2012.
In March, the Maldivian Supreme Court ruled that the law violates the constitution.
In May, a group of Maldivians filed a lawsuit against the city, saying the law infringes on the freedom of expression, assembly and religion.
It also claimed that the government has failed to implement the law.
